The award-winning Irish indie film Songs For Amy makes a triumphant return to the Galway Fleadh this July.

A dark comedy set in the West of Ireland, Songs For Amy follows a struggling musician who hopes to win back the love of his life, who is at the time wrapped around the waist of a pop star. It doesn’t quite go according to plan, not unlike the match last night. Helped (or hindered) by his eejit bandmates, Sean writes the album to win back his girl.

It’s an eclectic ensemble cast, including Sean Maguire, Lorna Anderson (River City), Barry Ward (Silent Witness), Ross Mac Mahon, Ford Kiernan (Still Game, Field of Blood), Rock Band ‘Alabama 3’ (as themselves), Patrick Bergin (Sleeping with the Enemy, A Kiss and a Promise), James Cosmo (tough as boots ‘aul fella in Braveheart, Game of Thrones), Kevin Ryan (RAW), Gavin Mitchell (You Instead), Alexandra Weaver (The IT Crowd) and Julie Addy.

Directed by Konrad Begg, written by Fiona Graham and Produced by Fiona Graham and Angela Murray, the film featues original music by Ultan Conlon, Jim McKee and Alabama 3.

Fresh from their sold-out World Premiere at the Newport Beach Film Festival, in May, the film ranked 4th out of 400 as audience favourites. It also won the special Jury Award for 'Outstanding Achievement in Filmmaking.' Newport Beach described ‘Songs For Amy’ as 'Embodying the true spirit of independent film and great cinema.'

They have arrived just in time to soothe the spirits of a nation distraught, having fought valiantly but fallen in Euro 2012. We can console ourselves with a big win in the arts department.
